Legal Counsel

About the role

The Legal Counsel will provide professional, timely, cost‑effective, and practical legal advice to Shell’s Integrated Gas business in Trinidad & Tobago. The role supports a portfolio of complex operated and non‑operated ventures, greenfield projects, expansions and backfill projects. Reporting to the Managing Counsel IG LatAm & Head of Legal Trinidad & Tobago, the position works closely with business units across Integrated Gas, Upstream, Downstream, Renewables and New Business Development.

Key responsibilities

• Lead or support material Integrated Gas legal matters, including new business development, acquisitions, divestments, contracts, procurement, litigation, ethics, compliance and joint‑venture governance.
• Ensure legal considerations and risk mitigation are integrated into operations, planning, contracting and project development.
• Optimize use of internal and external legal resources to deliver timely, cost‑effective advice while balancing risk and value.
• Monitor legal developments and communicate implications to business and functional directorates.
• Provide strategic advice on commercial and political matters and act as a sounding board for key decisions.
• Collaborate with commercial colleagues to design legal and commercial structures for existing activities and new opportunities.

Required profile

• Legal authorization to work in Trinidad & Tobago on a full‑time basis.
• Minimum 5‑10 years of relevant legal experience.
• Law degree and professional legal qualification.
• Strong legal and strategic judgment with excellent business partnering and stakeholder management skills.
• Proven legal contracting and drafting abilities.
• Leadership behaviours aligned with Shell’s “one Shell” culture, HSSE, compliance and continuous improvement.
