Graphic Designer

About the role

The Government of Trinidad and Tobago is hiring a Graphic Designer for a contractual position. The incumbent creates images, logos, layouts for magazines, newsletters, brochures and other print pieces, and handles the visual conceptualisation and graphic design of projects for the Ministry/Department. The role reports to the Head of Corporate Communications or a designated officer.

Key responsibilities

• Produce a wide range of visual material for communications programmes using current software such as InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Quark XPress.
• Conceptualise, design and lay out artwork such as advertisements, storyboards, flyers, brochures, booklets, file covers, posters, t-shirt prints, programmes and illustrative designs.
• Create and oversee product design and booth displays, and advise on the use of photos and special boards so that final artwork and displays meet quality standards.
• Oversee external work including pre-press, printers and designers to ensure required standards are met.
• Prepare digital artwork for offset reproduction and PDF files, and manage the filing and backup of digital artwork.
• Assist in developing creative concepts and attend meetings as required.

Required profile

• Minimum two years' experience in graphic design and web management processes.
• Training evidenced by an Associate Degree in Graphic Design, Communications or a related field; any suitable combination of experience and training is acceptable.
• Ability to translate ideas into graphic art, work within set timelines, communicate effectively and build good working relationships.

Required skills

• Desktop publishing software and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Quark XPress.
• Knowledge of graphic design principles, web usability and information architecture for websites and intranets.
• Microsoft Office Suite.
