Information Systems Specialist

About the role

This role covers the design, development, implementation and support of information systems for a ministry or department. It includes change management, requirements gathering, security incident handling, project support, testing, release delivery, maintenance and user training.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, document and implement changes to operational systems in line with change control procedures.
• Investigate operational requirements and problems and identify improvement opportunities.
• Assist with the design of information systems and document software outputs using defined standards, methods and tools.
• Determine and prioritise information systems requirements from users, management and stakeholders, aligned with business objectives.
• Investigate and resolve security incidents and maintain security controls to protect confidentiality, integrity and availability of applications.
• Analyse application data to support reporting and operational information needs.
• Support project management of system selection, development and implementation, including risk, cost, time and resource monitoring.
• Assist with software test development and execution of system and acceptance testing, and contribute to application releases.
• Resolve software issues, support scheduled maintenance and implement accepted solutions and preventative measures.
• Deliver training on software applications to users and audiences.
• Keep up to date with software application selection, development and operational products.

Required profile

• At least three years of ICT experience, including at least 18 months in application software design and development.
• Recognised Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Systems Management, Computer Engineering or a related field.
• Ability to supervise technical and support staff.
• Effective oral and written communication, teamwork and relationship-building with colleagues, internal stakeholders and the public.
