Research Manager – Economic Policy

About the role

The Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago seeks an experienced economist to lead its Research Department. The role involves shaping the Bank’s research agenda, producing high‑quality economic analysis, and advising senior leadership on policy matters.

Key responsibilities

• Plans and oversees production and publication of routine and non‑routine economic reports, ensuring quality control of scripts and written material.
• Develops the department’s research agenda aligned with the Bank’s strategic objectives and senior management priorities.
• Communicates research findings and policy implications to senior management and policy committees, including the Monetary Policy Committee.
• Represents the Bank in external engagements with regional central banks, government committees, IMF and international rating agencies.
• Manages human‑resource functions such as job description updates, performance monitoring, coaching and training recommendations.
• Prepares and monitors the department’s annual budget, forecasts expenditures and initiates corrective actions.

Required profile

• Post‑graduate degree in Economics, Finance or Statistics; Ph.D. is an asset.
• At least 12 years of experience in economics/finance/statistics with a minimum of 5 years in a supervisory role.
• Strong written, research and editing track record demonstrated by publications.
• Leadership and managerial training.

Required skills

• Econometric modelling (single‑equation, system and time‑series models).
• Data visualization and advanced statistical analysis.
• Machine‑learning techniques applied to economic and financial data.
• Proficiency with modelling software and programming languages used in applied research.
