Senior Information Technology (IT) Specialist

About the role

This Senior Information Technology (IT) Specialist manages and operates the ICT infrastructure of a Ministry or Department, in line with agreed standards, procedures and service level agreements. The role also supports the ICT Manager on network design, policy and architecture, and covers storage, backup, disaster recovery, security monitoring and training.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and operate the ICT infrastructure, storage and backup systems, and contribute to resolving operational problems.
• Support the ICT Manager with network and connectivity designs, policies, strategies, architecture and specifications.
• Document and implement disaster recovery arrangements and test them regularly.
• Guide the installation, testing, commissioning and decommissioning of ICT infrastructure, hardware, software and connectivity.
• Provide expertise on operating systems, data management and utility software, and resolve service delivery problems.
• Facilitate medium-scale ICT projects, including risk mitigation and quality assurance.
• Monitor service delivery against service level agreements and take action to improve it.
• Review security operations procedures, check the infrastructure for security breaches and take remedial action.
• Deliver training and stay up to date with technical specialisations in IT and connectivity.

Required profile

• At least five years of supervisory-level ICT experience, including at least two years developing, implementing and operating ICT systems, plus a recognised Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; or seven years of supervisory experience with a Bachelor's degree and ICT certification; or ten years of supervisory experience plus five years in ICT systems development and operation, with a two-year ICT diploma or certificate.
• Ability to supervise professional, technical and support staff.
• Ability to manage ICT projects and think creatively about technology solutions.
• Effective oral and written communication, teamwork, conflict management and positive interaction with the public and external stakeholders.

Required skills

• Knowledge of ICT infrastructure components and the principles, tools and techniques for managing ICT.
• Knowledge of project management tools and techniques.
• Some knowledge of Public Service processes and procedures.
