ICT Security Specialist

About the role

This position covers ICT security for the Ministry/Department, covering software applications, ICT installations, networks and infrastructure. It involves assessing risks and vulnerabilities, investigating incidents and breaches, reviewing security practices against policy, supporting service continuity planning and keeping up with security developments.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out security risk and vulnerability assessments for all business and operational software applications and ICT installations, recommend security strategies and controls, and investigate suspected attacks and manage security incidents.
• Plan and run programmes to review IT security activities, processes and services so they comply with security policy and procedures, report on conformance and recommend fixes and improvements.
• Investigate security breaches according to established procedures, recommend corrective actions, help users manage their security access and controls, implement agreed user security and maintain security records and documentation.
• Provide input to the service continuity planning process and assist in implementing the resulting plan.
• Stay current with developments in IT networks and infrastructure, including intrusion detection and protection, security management, vulnerability assessment and identity management, and advise on improving security.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required profile

• At least three years of experience in ICT, including at least two years securing ICT systems.
• Recognised Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Systems Management, Computer Engineering or a related field.
• Certification in information technology security management, such as CCNA Security or CISSP.
• Ability to supervise technical and support staff, analyse security problems and incidents, and communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Required skills

• Substantial knowledge of security for software applications, computer networks and IT infrastructure.
• Knowledge of IT security solutions such as CheckPoint.
• Knowledge of project management tools and techniques.
• Some knowledge of tools and techniques for managing and controlling ICT within an organisation.
