IT Infrastructure Specialist

About the role

This position provides technical services for the management, operation and maintenance of the computer centre hardware, software, systems and related infrastructure of a large Ministry/Department. It covers support for the computer room, email and domain management, PCs and laptops, and includes supervision of other ICT technical and support staff.

Key responsibilities

• Apply and maintain security controls to the IT infrastructure according to Ministry/Department policy and standards.
• Maintain knowledge of IT infrastructure technical specialisms and advise on their application.
• Assist with project management of IT infrastructure projects, including risk mitigation, quality assurance and resource management.
• Deliver training and learning activities to various audiences.
• Install, test, correct, commission and decommission IT infrastructure, keeping accurate service and support records.
• Monitor service level metrics and ensure SLAs are not breached.
• Use systems management software to collect performance statistics and carry out maintenance tasks.
• Investigate minor security breaches, take corrective action and keep security records.
• Perform agreed operational, maintenance and installation work, and assist with regular backups, restores and offsite storage tracking.
• Handle service desk and incident management requests and assist with problem resolution and preventative measures.
• Supervise technical and support staff and perform other assigned duties.

Required profile

• At least 3 years of technical experience, including at least 18 months in the operation and maintenance of ICT systems.
• Recognized Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Systems Management, Computer Engineering or a related field.
• Ability to supervise technical and support staff, manage IT infrastructure projects and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Some knowledge of ICT management and control in government or business organisations, and of Public Service rules and procedures.
