IT Infrastructure Specialist

About the role

The Ministry/Department is looking for an IT Infrastructure Specialist who will install, test, commission and decommission IT infrastructure according to defined procedures, maintain service and support records, and apply security controls to protect against unauthorised access. The role also covers incident handling, system maintenance, project support and training.

Key responsibilities

• Install, test, correct, commission and decommission IT infrastructure, keeping accurate service and support records.
• Apply and maintain security controls defined by the Ministry/Department's policies and standards, and investigate minor security breaches, taking corrective action and keeping security records.
• Use systems management software to collect performance statistics and carry out agreed software maintenance tasks.
• Monitor service level metrics and work with supervisors so that service level agreements are met.
• Handle service desk and incident management requests and maintain relevant records.
• Carry out agreed operational procedures, maintenance and installation work on the Ministry/Department's IT infrastructure.
• Support project management of IT infrastructure projects, including risk identification and mitigation, quality assurance and resource management.
• Assist with regular backups and restores and track offsite storage.
• Help investigate and resolve problems and implement preventative measures.
• Deliver training and keep up to date with developments in IT infrastructure.

Required profile

• At least three years of ICT experience, including at least 18 months operating and maintaining ICT systems.
• A recognised Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Information Systems Management, Computer Engineering or a related field.
• Ability to supervise technical and support staff and to manage IT infrastructure projects.
• Effective oral and written communication, teamwork, conflict management and positive interaction with the public and external stakeholders.
