RF Engineer

About the role

Digicel, a digital connectivity and communications provider operating wireless and fibre networks across the Caribbean, Central and South America, is looking for an RF Engineer in Port of Spain. The role supports the planning, optimization and performance management of radio access networks to improve coverage, capacity, service quality and customer experience, carrying out RF engineering activities and network analysis in line with engineering standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform RF planning and optimization across 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G networks
• Monitor and analyse KPIs, traffic trends, interference and utilization, troubleshoot faults and recommend corrective actions
• Carry out drive tests, spectrum scans and network measurements to find coverage and quality issues
• Prepare RF coverage predictions, site evaluations and RF network design inputs for expansion and upgrades
• Analyse capacity needs and traffic distribution, and prepare and execute approved RF parameter changes
• Run periodic RF configuration audits and support rollouts, upgrades, frequency refarming and acceptance testing
• Assist with BOM/BOQ, low-level designs and technical documentation, and support vendor feature trials
• Prepare technical reports, maintain engineering records and work with operations, vendors and other teams

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications or a related field
• At least 5 years of experience in RF planning, optimization or performance management of mobile networks
• Knowledge of 2G, 3G, 4G/LTE and 5G technologies, network architecture and RF principles
• Awareness of RF spectrum usage, regulatory requirements and change-control processes

Required skills

• RF planning tools such as Atoll, Planet, iBwave or equivalent
• Drive-test tools such as Nemo, TEMS, Actix, Azenqos, Echo or equivalent
• RF network design, coverage and capacity planning, and RF propagation and interference analysis
• Multi-technology troubleshooting (Ericsson, ZTE, Huawei, Nokia or equivalent)
