Assistant Crane Operator

About the role

A senior-level Roustabout position in Trinidad and Tobago supporting the Roustabout crew and providing direct assistance with crane and lifting operations under the direction of the Crane Operators. The role ensures that all crane operations are carried out safely, efficiently and in line with company policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect rig safety apparatus and equipment and train personnel to do so, following company and industry regulations
• Follow lock-out, tag-out procedures and ensure lifts stay within equipment load limits and are correctly rigged
• Make sure lifting gear is colour-coded before use and inspect slings, cables, straps and the crane structure before lifting
• Perform preventive maintenance on the crane and supervise its cleaning and painting when the Crane Operator is absent
• Operate the crane to hoist materials and equipment onto the rig and ocean vessels when the Crane Operator is absent, keeping radio contact with Roustabouts
• Assist in organising, planning and monitoring Roustabout work, and help with rig moving procedures
• Help orient and train new Roustabouts on helicopter safety, high-noise area safety, lifeboats, alarms and lifting techniques
• Maintain up-to-date crane record books and comply with the Permit to Work system
• Assess sea and weather conditions with the OIM and boat captain when the Crane Operator is absent
• Attend pre-tour, post-tour and weekly safety meetings and keep the work and living area tidy

Required profile

• Valid TBOSIET with CA-EBS and current medical certification
• Current Crane Operator certification
• At least two years' experience as a certified Crane Operator Assistant; prior offshore experience preferred
• Willingness to work over open water and at heights
