Fire Dispatcher

About the role

The Fire Dispatcher is the primary communications link between emergency callers and fire and rescue personnel. Based in the Emergency Communications Center on Ascension Island, the incumbent receives, evaluates and processes fire, medical and hazardous incident calls, coordinating the timely deployment of resources in accordance with DoD, NFPA and installation protocols.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor radio frequencies, landlines and emergency communication systems to receive fire, medical and hazardous incident notifications.
• Obtain accurate incident information, including location, classification, severity, hazards and assets at risk.
• Assess urgency using DoD and installation protocols and assign response priorities.
• Use Computer‑Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems and standardized alert procedures to deploy firefighting, rescue and support resources.
• Maintain continuous communication with responding units, providing real‑time updates, logistical coordination and support throughout each event.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent (additional education preferred).
• Proficiency in emergency telecommunications and a solid understanding of Ascension Island geography.
• Ability to operate with minimal supervision, exercise sound judgment and multitask under stress.
• Commitment to mission‑critical procedures that protect personnel safety and continuity of operations.
